Nail Fungus Treatment
Suffering from nail fungus? Mode of treatment
The nails are nothing but the dead cuticles of the skin and most of the time it has been found that topical ointments are not strong enough to penetrate into the thickened toenails or nails thus unable to cure the fungus that forms under them. Many ointments have been experimented with and the most commonly recommended nail fungus ointments are Fluconazole, Itraconazole and ZetaClear.
What do you mean by Nail Fungus?
Onychomycosis or nail fungus is a sort of nail disorder which you may not be aware of at the onset as you will get to know about it only when the condition worsens. The early signs of this disorder are when you notice discoloration of the nail tip i.e. the color of the nail tip may turn yellow or sometimes even black as the infection spreads to the whole nail if left untreated. This disorder usually occurs in the toenails as the toe nail is constantly exposed to the changing environment but then there have been cases where even the fingernails have been affected. The reason for the fingernails being affected is that the person is constantly working in a wet or humid environment.
Reasons behind this nail disorder
Dermatophytes are tiny organisms which cause this disorder and it affects people who are constantly working in wet conditions which include places like the swimming pools, shower rooms etc. These tiny organisms get embedded in the space between the nail base and the nail. Due to the attack of these organisms the protective protein layer called keratin is destroyed the result is there is no nail protection and the fungus spreads on all the surrounding areas not only affecting that particular nail but other nails too gradually. The continuous wearing of socks may give you a warm feeling but then this could lead to infection as the dermatophytes are known to breed in warm and humid climate.
The other reason for this to happen is that when the nail hits something hard the distance between the nail and the nail bed increases thus allowing these tiny organisms to enter the nail base and causing infection. There are many home remedies but then you need to consult your doctor before trying out home remedies.
What are the symptoms of the nail disorder?
The visible specks or spots of white or yellow under the tip of the fingernail or the toenail which gradually increases when not treated on time thus deepening the infection. Result being the discoloration of the entire nail, thickening of the nail and marked uneven edges of the nail.
Fingernail and toenail fungus
Toenails get affected by fungus because they are exposed more to the dark humid atmosphere that is created inside the shoes that are worn for a long period of time. The other reason being that due to the packed effect of the shoe there is less of blood circulation in the toes compared to the fingernails thus reducing the immune system of the body helping these tiny microorganisms to breed rapidly thus making it difficult to detect and eliminate it in the early stages.
What really is the reason for nail fungus growth? What are the symptoms of this disorder and how does it affect the immune system?
Most often people suffering from diabetes, H.I.V, people with poor blood circulatory system etc are known to be prone to the attack as the body’s immune system is weak and thus unable to sustain the attack of these tiny microorganisms making it easy for the infection to breed thus causing toenail and fingernail fungus.
